OPEN SA Holiday Market 2018

Una de las cosas que gustan tanto de la Ciudad de San Antonio es el fomento de convivencia colectiva; siempre hay algo que hacer o un lugar nuevo que visitar, el entretenimiento no termina.

One of the things that we  like so much about the City of San Antonio is its collective coexistence; There’s always something to do or a new place to visit, the entertainment doesn’t end.

Anoche tuvimos el gusto de estar en la inauguración del Holiday Market  que organiza el gobierno de la ciudad por  2 fines de semana consecutivos del mes de Diciembre, aquí se instalan comercios locales aprobados previamente por la dirección de este programa, encuentras ropa, accesorios, bisutería, artes en fibras y otras artesanías incluyendo la gastronómica como los frascos de mole poblano que son todo un deleite.

Last night we attended the Grand Opening of the OPEN SA Holiday Market, an annual event organized by the Center City Development and Operations Department. This event  takes place  in the month of December for two consecutive  weekends,  Here you will find  local businesses showcasing clothing, accessories, jewelry , art in fiber  and other handicrafts, including  macramé, ceramics and even gastronomic delights  such as mole poblano  and  the authentic Mexican cocoa.

El 231 E. del Houston st. fué el punto de reunión no solo para ir a comprar los regalitos de navidad,  si no también para ir a socializar,  en serio que no falta con quien te topes y te dé un update de su vida o a quien te presenten y terminen haciendo las compras juntos, todo esto por la buena vibra en el ambiente que marca  el dj  en turno  y  también gracias a  la mesa queso, pan y vino que nos mantiene satisfechos cuando llega el antojo.

The 231 E. of Houston st. was the meeting point of this year’s event, we bumped into friends who were not only shopping  for Christmas gifts but also socializing, this definitely the place to see and be seeing;  The good atmosphere was in charge of DJ Southtown Vinyl but we also must mention  that the  delicious charcuterie board and wine kept us all in a good mood too.

En este bazar navideño encuentras tanto marcas establecidas como la de Gio DeZurita quien exhibe una pared en grafiti perfecta para fotos y también mercancía con impresos de sus obras de arte.

In this Christmas bazaar you can find established brands and personalities  such as Gio DeZurita who exhibits a graffiti wall perfect  for photos and boomerangs and  her clothing line, paintings and home decor such pillows and candles.

Esta iniciativa es la misma vez,  un trampolín para nuevos  creadores de producto,  Honeydipped Co. es una línea de cuidado de la piel con ingredientes naturales como miel de abeja, café y tumeric,  son una maravilla (probamos de todo menos el jabón de la cara) y sus precios son súper accesibles. Te recomendamos el suero de aloe vera y la mascarilla de café que también es para exfoliar.

The OPEN Downtown  initiative is at the same time, a springboard for new product creators, Honeydipped Co. is a skin care line made with natural ingredients such honey, coffee and tumeric ! (we tried everything except the face cleanser) theprices are super accessible too. We recommend  to try aloe vera moisturizer and the coffee face mask and scrub.

Otra guapa que conocimos  es la boss babe de Jowa ( coreano y se traduce como bien, lindo, bonito, wow etc)  es nueva en la ciudad y su aportación cultural es MUY tangible y chic, ya que la ropa y accesorios son hechos en su país  con materiales de alta calidad. En sus racks y mesas encuentras  tendencias en faux fur al igual que  lanas y accesorios en piel.

We also met a gorgeous  boss babe  at Jowa (Korean that translates as good, cute, pretty, wow etc) she’s new in the city and her cultural contribution to us is VERY chic, she brings clothes and accessories made in her country with high quality materials such wool, cashmeres  some faux furs and trendy leather accessories.

OPEN pop up San Antonio es un programa creado para impulsar inversionistas locales que están desarrollando una  marca o negocio y se le permite  establecerse temporalmente en alguno de los locales vacantes que hay en el centro de la ciudad por un poco o nada de renta, así experimentan lo que conlleva ser emprendedor y hacer pruebas de mercado pudiendo hacer ajustes  si preocuparse por los gastos fijos de alquiler. Muchos negocios que iniciaron como parte de este proyecto hoy en día ya son negocios establecidos por su cuenta  y posicionados  en la comunidad.

OPEN SA program, was created to encourage local makers who are developing a brand or have an online presence  to temporarily settle in one of the city’s vacant premises for a little or no lease dues, this way they can experience what entails being an entrepreneur  by testing the market and  making  adjustments without worrying  about the lethal rental expenses . Many vendors that started as part of this project, today  they are established and well recognized businesses  in the community.
