I want to take you around my most recent discovery in San Antonio, Uptown CHEAPSKATE! A resale store with amazing clothes and accessories that carries favorite brands such ZARA, H&M, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Tory Bruch, Shutz and many more. At first, I visited the store with the intention of sharing with you another way to adopt a sustainable style but once there, I realized that at UPTOWN the benefits of being socially responsible are even bigger! ***Do you know that according to a study by McKinsey and Co. the fashion industry is responsible for 2.1 trillion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions?

 

Telling a fashion lover that she or he has to stop buying clothes is cold and insensitivity (how dare you!, insert crying emoji here)  but  what about making  more sustainable decisions? like buying resale or vintage?  we have to start at some point and this is a great way to do it.  In past blogs, I compared fast fashion with fast food, some of us enjoy it from time to time but overindulging would take a toll on our health, in that same sense, excessive  fashion production has exhausted our natural resources due to the lack of  proper environmental regulations.

I get  this answer a lot, and there’s some truth in it but there are many ways to make it work in our favor, I’ve been practicing sustainability for the last 2 years and it only gets easier with time, the benefits are rewarding and I don’t feel that I had to sacrifice my style and passion for fashion. Here are 5 tips that will encourage you to start your own sustainable lifestyle journey.

1. Set up a  a budget per season, limit the purchase of trendy and fast fashion pieces; instead, invest in basic/classics consciously made pieces, or purchase resale. Now it’s easier than ever to find stores and  brands that are committed in reversing the damages caused by the lack of social and ecological responsibility.

2. Learn how  to curate your own wardrobe, if you don’t know where to start send me a DM! I’ll be more than happy to share my guide.
3. When feeling that urge to get something new, ask yourself how many times you are going to use it for that season, for a trendy item your answer should from 8 to 12 times in next 3 months and for basics should be at least double!  Are you ready to commit to a long relationship ?
4. Be picky about what you bring into your closet,  optimizing your wardrobe saves you time and money and be ready to see more money in your bank account, money that can be invested in a designer pieces, to pay off debts or finally booking that trip!.

5. Lastly, being socially responsible pays off! once you’re done with your clothes, don’t just toss them in the garbage, most likely they will up in landfills; Take them to stores that are committed to make a difference such UPTOWN CHEAPSKATE on Huebner Road, they pay you cash right on the spot or 25% more if you choose store credit. Has visto que en días recientes he compartido mi más reciente descubrimiento en San Antonio, Uptown CHEAPSKATE ! una boutique  tipo bazaar con ropa y accesorios de uso medio y saldos nuevos de las marcas que nos encantan tales como ZARA, H&M, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Tory Bruch, Shutz y muchos otros.

Cuando recibí la invitación para visitar la boutique, fue con la intención de compartir con ustedes otra manera de ser sostenible en nuestro estilo personal pero luego me di cuenta que el beneficio es aún mas grande! Ser parte de la familia Uptown CHEAPSKATE nos ayuda a mantener un closet limpio, estilo único y hasta podemos hacer dinero !

Yo entiendo que no podemos dejar de comprar ropa de un día para otro pero lo que sí podemos hacer es tomar decisiones más sustentables. En otro blog les hacía la comparación de la moda con comida rápida, es deliciosa para disfrutarla de cuando en cuando pero no puede ser la base de nuestra dieta ya que en cierto momento nuestro cuerpo pagaría las consecuencias, tal cual pasa con la moda de producción rápida, la mayoría de los materiales que usan no son textiles renovables, muchos de sus producciones son realizadas en lugares sin medidas de higiene o regulaciones ambientales y hasta en condiciones infrahumanas.

 La moda sustentable es más cara y nada trendy!”

Esta es la respuesta que la mayoría me da, hay algo de cierto pero también tiene su lado bueno; Aquí te dejo algunos de los beneficios y tips de cómo adoptar un estilo más sustentable.

1. Haz un presupuesto por temporada y apuesta por básicos/clásicoshechos con materiales y prácticas justas.  limita la compra de piezas de tendencia tipo fast fashion. Invierte en marcas que se esfuerzan por llevar un proceso ético de principio a fin. Ahora es más fácil encontrar información de quienes se interesan en revertir los daños causados por la falta de responsabilidad social y ecológica.

2. Aprende a curar tu propia colección de guardarropa para cada temporada, si no sabes por dónde empezar mándame un DM! 
3. Cuando quieras comprarte una prenda piensa cuantas veces la vas a usar en esa temporada, si es un artículo de ultra tendencia tu respuesta tuviera que ser de 8 a 12 veces por los siguientes 4 meses y si es un básico hasta el doble.! Estas dispuesta a entrar en una relación seria de largo plazo ?
4.  Ahorra dinero al no comprar cosas nuevas cada salida, dinero que podrás invertir en una pieza de diseñador, saldar cualquier otra deuda, y hasta irte a ese viaje que tanto quieres!

5. Por último, cuando ya hayas terminado de disfrutar tus prendas, no las dejes en basureros ya que terminaran contaminando por años, llévalas a tiendas como Uptown CHEAPSKATE on Huebner Road, te darán la opción de pagarte en efectivo o darte 25% más si eliges crédito para otras compras.
